Boasting one of the finest longest sandy beaches in the Algarve, Armação de Pera, for centuries a fishing village, is mainly composed of blocks of holiday apartments and hotels, but yet possible to watch the fishermen gear up for their daily work.
The vast triangle defined by Silves, São Bartolomeu de Messines and Armação de Pêra is a land of fruit trees of small villages where the houses have whitewashed walls, with doors and windows picked out in blue, and ornate chimneys that resemble a more solid version of lace.
Very quiet during most of the year, in the Summer months the town overflows with tourists either portuguese and international.
